I donated my hair!

Saturday, August 26th, 2006

Yeup I cut it. For those of you that know me and my hair it is still about waist length. :)

This is the 2nd time I have donated to Locks of Love: http://www.locksoflove.org/ They take the donated hair and make it into wigs for for financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss.

The last time I donated was 2 1/2 years ago and I gave about 15″ at that time. This time I cut about 11″ and a small section from my bangs that was 20″.

I will let my hair grow out agian and when it is once agian long enough to sit on I’ll donate another 10-12″. (Minimum donation length is 10″) It takes about 6-10 ponytails to make a wig for a child. Thats a lot of donations.

Its a wonderful cause and one you might think about before your next hair cut. You might even check with your salon. Some Salons will give you a free hair cut if you are donating 10″ or more of hair to Locks of Love.

Aloha!

So just for fun this weekend we went to the Oklahoma Video Game Exhibition for 2006. Here’s a link to the page and some pictures my husband Brandon put up about it.

I got several comments about my shirt.  It was a present from my husband and says “I (Heart) my Geek” ;) Always popular at anything computer related. :)

Water retention in a heatwave?

For those of you who like to weigh yourself every morning don’t be overly concerned if you have a sudden weight gain.

Why the Scale Lies:
http://www.primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/library/weight/scale.htm

Remember you want to lose Body Fat, not weight, and muscle weighs more than fat.

Understanding Your Body Fat Percentage:

Stick to weighing in on a weekly basis. Or go by how clothes are fitting/measurements.

And set a realistic goal. I remember reading once that most women have a goal that is under the ideal weight for them.

Anything, but excercise…

I didn’t go to my martial arts class last night. In part due to being upset over yesterday morning’s find of what happened to my car the last time I was in class. So now I’m feeling the “I blew off my workout- and I really need to workout- feeling lazy blues”. But not guilty enough to go and workout.

Which isn’t all that unusual. Gyms make their money on people wanting to workout, but not actually showing up to workout.

I’ll admit it. I got suckered into signing a contract to one of “those” gyms. I worked-out for about 3-6 months and now I pay monthly for a gym that I never go to. And will till my contract runs out. Which is exactly what they want you to do and how they make their money.

I even have the usual home gear, magazines, and DVDs cluttering up my house. I have the weights, stability ball, bands, and I even have a punching bag. I can pull up Taebo, pilates, or boot camp on my TV. All this in the privacy and convenience of my own home. Do I use them? Rarely.

Why is it that we don’t love to exercise? Here is an interesting article. Nice pictures too.

Here is a very nice listing of Free Online Workouts:

And after all that… will I workout today? Does surfing the net count?

Unbelievable – My car got keyed

Wednesday, August 16th, 2006

So last night I go to my martial arts school to fill in for one of the other instructors. I park my car out front with the passenger side to the sidewalk. I’m there for about 5 hrs. Parents are dropping off and picking kids up the whole night. Its late by the time I’m done and I don’t even walk by the passenger side of the car. Come home and park the car in our garage.

This morning my husband points out the keying that stretches along the passenger side covering both doors. Had to of happened at some point last night. I did some Googling this morning just a few of the things I found:

Vandalism what is it?
The willful wanton and malicious destruction of the property of others.
It is a crime.

Who Vandalizes?
Some vandals work in groups. You may know some of the teens doing the damage. There is no one type of teen who vandalizes. They might be the smartest kid in school, or the kid who’s always in trouble. Most vandals are young people. Ranging from grade school age-to teens-to young adults.

Why?
Out of: boredom, anger, revenge, defiance, or association with friends.

Where does it happen?
Anywhere there are cars and parking lots. Schools and Campuses seem to be a playground for vandalism. Obviously because the concentration of young people of grade school age-teen-young adult. And its an easy way to get back at someone you don’t like.

How to instructions.
Are available out there on the best ways to vandalize cars, school property etc…. and how to get away with it. And you’re young so what are they going to do with you if they catch you?

What do these teens-young adults think of it?
“You are asking for it by driving a nice/expensive car.”
“By driving a nice car you’re saying “I’m rich so there”. They are saying “so there” back.”
“Daddy got it for you” so get “Daddy to pay to fix it up.”
“It still drives, doesn’t it? “

I could not believe some of the comments that I read . The scary fact is that these same teenagers will be voting in our next elections…

I drive a Honda Pilot folks. It is not new, but I take good care of it and keep it clean and orderly. Infact I just washed it this weekend. Needless to say I’m mad that someone would do this out of boredom or envy.

Boredom? Nothing to do. Oh, look a nice car lets scratch it. Anger? Jealousy? Envy?I don’t have a car lets scratch that one because they do? That car is nicer than mine. Haha. Now its not so nice anymore.

Honestly, does that make you feel better? Does it make you “cool”? How immature are you to deface someone’s property? Are you that envious that you have to destroy someones stuff because you don’t have it?

If you’re that bored and envious. Get a job. Get a life. Get your own stuff. Then some young punk can come along and show you how it feels to have things that you work hard for damaged.

Do you Sudoku?

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

Okay I admit I’m a little late coming into this craze. Which seems to be on its way out. I’m not even that into it. Which is weird as I’m hooked on puzzle games. Maybe its that it was so popular for awhile there. I’m just not one to jump on the band wagon.

However my son is crazy about SpongeBob. And I saw a Sudoku SpongeBob book. It gives you little stickers to place and its only a 4×4 square, but he is have a blast doing it….

So, if you’re into Sudoku or are wondering what I’m talking about….

Spent the day relaxing my brain and taking it easy after a week full of martial arts and web work. Of course this relaxing was after cleaning the house and cooking. :) Otherwise I’d just never be able to relax. The floors would be haunting me.

Read something funny in one of the magazines I get. Some poll thing they did:

Being over 30 and still on MySpace
29% say its a do – 71% say its a don’t

Aloha!

Finally! How to answer one of life’s rudest questions

Friday, August 11th, 2006

This is a question that is often asked and most people don’t realize how hurtful it can be to some people. Even if they aren’t trying its a very personal question.

How to answer is always a dilemma for the person asked. How much detail do I tell this person? Do they really want to know? Is it going to open up a line of dialog that we’ll both be uncomfortable with?

So here it is:

Q: When are you going to have a kid?. (kids or another child)

A: We’re not on a schedule. It’ll happen for us when the time is right.

Short. Simple. No need to give details.

The time vortex that is the computer

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006

Well, seems like I spent most of the day updating web pages and creating this blog. I finally got my picture on here and the template personalized though. And I did (almost) everything with out a single “Honey Help!” Hopefully everything works right.

I have a few more tweaks here and there and then I can start adding the new content to the various webpages and such.
ALOHA!
